Keeping your New Years Resolution–Quitting Smoking Cigarettes

by Christina Jones on January 19, 2012

nosmoking-2012How many of you made that New Years Resolution?  I didn’t this year, believe it or not.

Let me tell you, making the switch from smoking tobacco cigarettes to vaping e-cigarettes was just about the easiest thing I ever did, and no doubt, one of the best.  In September of 2010, I had just about tired of researching e-cigarettes and weeding through the chaff trying to find out which one to try, and how on earth they worked (and which one wasn’t a piece of junk and which company wasn’t out there to scam me).  I knew I wanted to try it, but dang, it is a mess trying to get there!  In the mass confusion, I just stalled out and did nothing.  After all, I loved smoking.  I really wanted to quit, but I didn’t want to quit.  I’m sure you understand.

Then comes the day where a client comes in to the shop where I work part time as a nail technician.  She was vaping away and so dang happy about it.  She loved her e-cig, and loved the delicious pear flavor she was vaping.  We talked for at least the whole hour she was there about her e-cig and how she and her husband made their own e-liquid.  Thankfully I had my trusty laptop with me, and after her appointment, she showed me where to go and exactly what to buy.  She even gave me info about where to get DIY supplies for e-liquid – me knowing full well that I am very much a DIY kind of a girl, and that would be where I went next with all this.  So when she left, I had a kit, some empty cartridges and a couple of bottles of e-liquid on the way, priority mail.

So my eGo kit shows up a few days later.  I remember I had about a half a pack of Marlboro Ultra Light 100’s left, and I hauled my cookies out on the back porch and opened up my kit.  I poked one of the prefilled cartridges into the e-cigarette, and started vaping.  A couple of hits in, and I got that swimmy little nicotine buzz.  WOW!  This thing really has nicotine in it – and plenty of it!  I got the other battery set up on the charger, and just kept using the one I had.

It took me about 3 weeks to finish that half a pack of Marlboros and while I would like to say I have never bought a pack since, I have to say that my hubby and I went to a neighboring city last summer for a big night out partying, and I got a wild hair and bought a pack.  But in the last 17 months, I have bought one pack of cigarettes.  And that, my friend, is impressive.  I know lots of people who haven’t succumbed and haven’t bought a pack in all the time they have been vaping.

I pretty quickly dropped my nicotine liquid from high strength (24 mg) down to low (6mg), and that is where I am staying.  It was so easy to do, and honestly, I don’t really see why I need to go to zero.  But, maybe I should so I can officially tell my doctor and my insurance company that I am a non-nicotine user.  I am definitely going to continue vaping through – it has been a miracle for me.

Here’s hoping you can have your New Years miracle too.
