Similar to the post I did a few weeks back on the atomizers, I would like to update you on all of the different batteries we have from Joyetech for your eGo.  We have come a long way, baby!

To make a long story short, I will just tell you – if your battery is more than a couple of months old, it is now obsolete and when you need a new one, you will be upgrading.  Don’t groan (several of our customers have groaned when I have told them their new battery now has “features”), features are good. 

There is no longer such a thing as an “eGo battery.”  Your new battery will be called an “eGo-T” or an “eGo-C” depending on its features.  If you are unaware, the eGo-T is the second generation eGo e-cigarette from Joyetech and it features a new atomizer and a tank cartridge (no poly-fill inside, transparent).  We pretty much skipped over it here at VapeGeek because, well, I don’t like it.  I may have mentioned that before.   

The eGo-C is the 3rd generation and is an improved version of eGo-T.  It is still a tank cartridge and a similarly functioning atomizer, but the big difference here is that only the small little electrical piece in the eGo C is replaced.  The Atomizers for the eGo C are sold in 5 packs, are significantly less expensive than the eGo-T atomizers (a leeeetle less expensive than the 510’s from the first – and best IMO – generation) and honestly they really last a long time, especially with a little care.  I definitely like the eGo C better than the eGo T.

So from that brief explanation of the history of the eGo e-cigarette, did you pick up on the fact that none of the changes from generation to generation have much to do with the battery? 

If you did, you are smart.  eGo-T’s and –C’s atomizers all work just find on your good old eGo battery.   Until it’s time to replace it, in which case you will have to make a choice.   The names for the batteries honestly correspond mostly to the current model they were featuring at the time the batteries were developed. 

Here are your choices:

For the benefit of people like me who are not electricians, and have to garner certain useful knowledge on the fly, capacity is measured in mAh (milliampere hours) and refers to how long a battery holds a charge (i.e., the 1000’s hold a longer charge than the 650’s – and are also a good inch longer), and output is measured in Volts and directs how much power is supplied to your atomizer (i.e., more power, more vaper – and less battery time!).  Make sense?  If you have a question, feel free to ask in the comments.  A nice little easy to understand site on basic electricity I found is here.  Check it out if you have an inquiring mind, like me.  There is information on resistance there that is useful/helpful on understanding atomizers, but I won’t clutter the batteries with that info.

All in all, I really LOVE the new battery choices.  The eGo Classic starter kits we are currently shipping have eGo-T 2 Upgrade batteries in them, and I hope at least some of the folks that get one try out the high voltage option.  It is really nice and something that might make you feel a little less departed from your trusty old cigarette.

I have tried the eGo Twist now, and it too is really nice – we here at VapeGeek HQ call it “The Oboe” – as I am using the 1000 mAh version, which is significantly longer than the other 1000 mAh versions, along with an XL horizontal coil cartomizer.  Here, let me show you:

The Boston Globe reports that the Board of Health of Cohasset MA. is considering banning the use of Electronic cigarettes in areas where traditional cigarettes are prohibited. The reason given for considering this ban?..not because electronic cigarettes are dangerous to others..in fact there is NO EVIDENCE that the vapor produced by an E-cigarette is dangerous to anyone.

NO, the reason offered by Dr. Robert Lawrence (dentist and local board member):

From my perspective, using [them] models a child to a smoking behavior that can be easily turned into the real deal,” he said. “I may be out on the fringe, but my responsibility is to look out for the health of the citizens in the town where I live.

Out on the fringe for sure if you ask me! First off, smoking was never banned in public in an effort to decrease the number of people starting to smoke, it was banned in public in an effort to eliminate the affect smoking has on people around them, primarily the negative health impact of second hand smoke.

It is AMAZING to me that some individuals think they can push their own personal agenda on the public in general simply because they don’t agree with the behavior or in an effort to “save us from ourselves!”   Sure everyone knows smoking isn’t healthy but it is still legal to smoke and as Americans we have the right to make that choice – but we do have to abide by the laws restricting where you can smoke.  But in this case it would be Government attempting to ban Vaping in public – which is perfectly legal – not for health reasons but because they don’t like how it appears to children.  Really??!  What’s next..NO Drinking in public because it might entice children to drink alcohol, or no kissing in public because, heaven forbid, it could turn into wanting to have SEX! Give me a break.

Thank goodness there are some people that have a more common sense approach.

The article goes on to quote Dr. Michael Siegel, a tobacco control specialist at Boston University School of Public Health, about his concerns…

Siegel also had concerns about lumping electronic cigarettes with other tobacco products when regulating public smoking because “there’s no scientific evidence that the exhaled vapor poses any health hazard to bystanders.

Dr. Siegel himself posts his own views in an article titled “The Rest of the Story” which can be found HERE.

In his post he adds this:

It appears that the Cohasset Board of Health wants to outlaw vaping in public places because they don’t want children to see people using electronic cigarettes. In other words, they don’t want children to see people trying to quit smoking.

Apparently, the Board of Health seems to misunderstand the most basic fact about electronic cigarettes: these products are being used primarily by smokers who want to quit smoking or cut down substantially in order to protect their health. Why would this be something that we wouldn’t want children to see?

In fact, it might be that if children were to see how many smokers want to quit, it would actually decrease their perceptions of the glamor of smoking.

While opponents of vaping in public argue that it may lead children to start smoking, I think the opposite may be true. Such a view is, I believe, very short-sighted. While it may be true that if a child sees, for the first time, someone use an electronic cigarette, the child may be confused and think it is a real cigarette. But surely, over time, children will come to recognize electronic cigarettes and to understand that they are being used by smokers who are trying to quit because they are concerned about the health effects of smoking. This will help to de-glamorize smoking by teaching children that many smokers are unhappy that they started smoking and now want to quit. This could actually serve as an anti-smoking, rather than a pro-smoking phenomenon.

The second major argument against banning vaping in public places is that there is no evidence that exhaled electronic cigarette vapor is hazardous to bystanders. I believe that it undermines the justification for banning smoking in public places if health boards and city councils ban a behavior for which there is no evidence of harm. The reason why I believe workplace smoking bans are justified is that there is solid scientific evidence that secondhand smoke exposure is a significant health hazard for nonsmoking employees. If health boards start to ban behaviors without evidence of health hazards, then it undermines the seriousness of their responsibility to regulate behaviors for which there is evidence of health harm to others.”

I couldn’t agree more with the good Doctor!  The people that are using the electronic cigarette have changed their own behavior to a healthier alternative to themselves and the others around them.

THE VAST majority of people who are vaping are people who were or are already smoking so if those people weren’t vaping where a child could see them, they would be smoking where a child could see them.

 KEEP VAPING MY FRIENDS!  Thank GOD I live in the great Republic of Texas where liberals such as these are kept relatively in check!

I want to give everyone a little history of how and why Vapegeek came into being an E Cigarette retailer.  I will try not to bore you too much with a long drawn out story but I do feel it is important that customers and potential customers know something about the business they choose to patronize. I feel this is has become  even more important in the Internet business arena as it difficult to know anything more than what is listed on a website.  At Vapegeek  we still believe People want to do business with People – no matter where they live and even if it is through a website!

With that in mind, a very short history of the owners – Marshall and Christina Jones.  When it comes to work and work history you probably couldn’t find two people with as different a history as us.  I have spent my career working for “others” – i.e. salaried employee of companies owned by individual or stock holders.  At one time I was an executive for the largest financial services company in the world and now am CFO for a group of smaller companies owned by a close friend.

Christina on the other hand has always been an entrepreneur – working for herself – either in a business enterprise she owned or as a contractor for larger company.   She has a tremendous drive to explore new avenues and is fearless when it comes to trying new things.  She has a very inquisitive mind and when she gets interested in something …get out of her way because she is going to learn everything there is to know about that subject, idea or process.  It’s just ONE of the MANY things I love about her!   (Our son Noah has inherited this trait from her for sure..right now he is on snakes…he has 2 snakes in our home and all he does is read, research, watch TV shows about and talk SNAKES..snakes, snakes, snakes, and even more snakes!.)

So as you can see the two of us have a varied background when it comes to work history.

So what prompted us to create Vapegeek a business to sell Electronic Cigarettes? As most things do around our house, it came about through Christina.

Christina grew up in Tennessee – right next to the Carolinas which are  in the tobacco belt.  I tease her all the time – everyone in Tennessee smokes and she wasn’t any different.  Christina started smoking at 16.  As most long time smokers do she decided to quit smoking.  She tried virtually all the methods to stop smoking and while she has some short term success with a couple she always went back to smoking.

Being the “Geek” in Vapegeek – Christina had really been wanting to try an e cigarette for some time but was hesitant to purchase one on the internet due to the vast amount of conflicting information and “horror stories” of being ripped off.  It was only after talking to someone that had purchased a quality product and was happy with it’s performance that she ventured out and purchased the same model.  (Even that person had been burned on her first e cigarette purchase off the internet.)

The E Cigarette she purchased was an Ego kit off the internet based on the review of this lady and immediately fell in love with the product.   She loved everything about it and so did I.  (See my previous post regarding why NON SMOKERS love  E Cigarettes too!).

It  wasn’t long before people would come up to her when she was vaping in public wanting to know what that “thing” was , how it worked and if they could try it.  (It’s kinda funny to us non-smokers how smokers borrow cigarettes and share cigarettes with total strangers.  I don’t find many people walking up and asking for a beer out of your six pack or a bite of your food!) Anyway, when people would ask her about her Ego E cigarette she would explain to them how wonderful it was..how it helped her stop smoking, how it worked and everything about it.

This was what got ME to thinking about selling e cigarettes – and specifically Ego e cigarettes.  We both felt there were just some many good things about a person switching from traditional cigarettes to E cigarettes.  My wife IS very internet savy and yet she waited to purchase an e cigarette until she could talk to someone about them.  I knew then the one of the most important factors in an e cigarette purchase would be product knowledge and my wife had it!

The internet had some much BAD information and conflicting information as well as many horror stories of people getting ripped off by cheap knock off products that even someone with her vast knowledge of the internet was hesitant to just jump out and buy one without talking to someone about the performance of the one she was going to buy.

T he next issue was that we went to every place in our local market to find out what our competitors were offering and what knowledge they had of that product BEFORE we made our decision to sell e cigarettes.  The results of our inquiries were eye opening for us.  First let me say the only place we found a retail store to our area to purchase e cigarettes were the following: Two smoke shops (head shops), one Mega Liquor store and our local porn shop.   Not one person in those four places could tell us even the most rudimentary information about the product being offered.  In fact only 1 could even tell us the prices and that’s only after the looked them up.

So after discussing the idea of starting a business to sell E cigarettes we agreed that we should do it.  Once we made that decision, we decided would only sell quality products and would test the products ourselves to understand and know exactly how they perform.  Our goal is to offer our customers a place to shop that you can do business with people you can trust.  Whether you live in our hometown of College Station, Texas or any where else in the world.

So based on all of the above we felt that if we offered a quality product that we believed in and operated well and at a competitive price that , people would buy from us.  It is not a ground breaking business model but one we feel good about and our customers know they can believe what we tell them.

And you can get our products WITHOUT having to go to the places you don’t want to and feeling like you  have to cover your head when you walk in or out the building. ( We do live in a pretty small, conservative town after all.)

There are many claims made by Manufacturers, Retailers, Users and especially Competitors of Electronic Cigarettes ( E Cigarettes) regarding whether they are “healthy”.   At Vapegeek, you will not see or hear us touting anything but the TRUTH about  E Cigarettes.  What we say is either our first hand knowledge of the results we or our customers have experienced using our products OR it is a fact we found from a reputable source.

SO to answer THE BIG question: Are E Cigarettes healthy?  The answer is to this question is….

Drum roll…

They aren’t healthy, they are HEALTHIER. 

What I mean by that is this…Using an E Cigarette to get nicotine is MUCH healthier than smoking a traditional cigarette.  HOWEVER it isn’t as healthy as NOT using nicotine at all.

An E Cigarette is really nothing more than a Nicotine delivery device – not much different than other devices used to deliver nicotine such as nicotine gum or a nicotine inhaler or nicotine patch.

Traditional cigarettes not only contain nicotine –  they contain thousands of chemicals ( up to 4000 chemicals depending on the brand and how they are produced.) Click HERE  for an article that lists of some of the most dangerous of these chemicals in traditional cigarettes.   As stated in that article the BURNING of tobacco that releases many of these chemicals.  In the article Matthew Busse states:

” Although nicotine is responsible for the addictive qualities of tobacco smoke, it is actually the other chemicals in smoke that cause most of the damage to the body. Cigarette smoke contains over 4,000 chemicals. Fifty of those are carcinogens, compounds that are known to cause cancer, and another 200 are harmful in other ways“.

In addition, a study done on an e cigarette  in New Zealand by Murry Laugesen in 2009 tested one brand of E Cigarette the Ruyan V8.  The study came to the following Conclusions:

E Cigarette users do not inhale smoke or smoke toxicants.

The modest reductions recommended in 2008 by WHO (World Health Organization) Tobacco Regulation committee for 9 major toxicants in cigarette smoke…are already far exceeded by e cigarettes as it is free of all accompanying smoke intoxicants.

Absolute safety does not exist for any drug, but relative to lethal tobacco smoke emissions, e cigarettes emissions appear to be several magnitudes SAFER.

E cigarettes are akin to a medical nicotine inhaler in safety, dose and addiction potential

E Cigarettes are cigarette substitutes.  If they can take nicotine market share from cigarettes …they will improve smoker and population health.

ALSO they are Healthier to people around you as they do not produce SMOKE – so no second hand smoke that contains all the chemicals mentioned above!

As you can see there are actual FACTS to support that E Cigarettes are a HEALTHIER alternative to traditional cigarettes.  While the term Electronic Cigarettes contains the word cigarette, you should think of them as a nicotine delivery device, which have been proven to be  healthier than smoking.

The next logical question is then why an E cigarette over gum, inhaler, or patch?

The biggest reason is that NONE of these nicotine delivery devices simulates smoking like an E Cigarette.  Let’s face it, not only are smokers addicted to nicotine but also addicted to the physical behaviors that go along with smoking–putting that cigarette into your mouth, wanting to smoke at certain times (after meals, in the morning, when stress levels increase and of course after SEX!), and even the habit of holding a cigarette in your hand.  ALL of these behaviors can continue with an E Cigarette!

Another great reason to use an E Cigarette is that YOU can easily control the amount of nicotine you receive by using varying the amount of nicotine in the ” juice” used.  You can decrease the level of nicotine from high all the way down to zero whenever you want.  This allows you to customize and vary the levels with your desire to maintain or to reduce your level of nicotine dependence.

One more reason to choose an E Cigarettes is that they do not require a doctor’s prescription as some other nicotine delivery methods.

Not often you get a chance to demo an E cigarette – most retailers don’t even have a “brick and mortar”  place of business and those that do sell them in stores – usually have E Cigarettes as a after-thought ( a couple on a shelf)  and don’t know much about the product and certainly don’t have one you can TRY BEFORE YOU BUY!

E cigarettes are still a relatively new product  – certainly when you compare it to how long traditional cigarettes have been around. While  Smoking tobacco has been around since 2000 BC, e cigarettes on the other hand were first manufactured in China in 2003 and not imported into the United States until 2006.   The popularity of the E Cigarette has risen greatly in the last couple of years and with good reason as the are a great product!  Well, let me qualify that..SOME of them are great products.

As with all products that are popular – there are companies and individuals that will attempt to capitalize on their popularity by producing and selling cheap imitation “knock offs”.   We have all  seen the fake Rolex watches , the Louis Vitton purses and Oakley sunglasses being sold and worn.

E Cigarettes are no different than these  in fact since many of the  fakes of  name brand merchandise are produced in China – it doesn’t take a genius to know that if the genuine product is manufactured in China that there are going to be fakes and knock offs produced in China as well.

The question is how can I tell what is an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) product from a fake?  The truth is that it is extremely difficult to determine if an e cigarette is OEM or a cheap knock off – especially from a website.   Many of our customers have turned to VAPEGEEK because they have been fooled and “burned” (pun intended) by these vendors.  Unlike many of the products that are knocked off – it is the performance of the e cigarette, NOT just the look that is critical to the user.   Some can fake the look but not how the e cigarette performs and lasts (including the components) and that is what really counts!

If you aren’t sophisticated enough to determine if the product is original or a fake (and let’s face it – who can be when it comes to so many products being knocked off and especially since many fakes look  almost exactly as the real thing), then the best way is to pick a REPUTABLE seller who ONLY sells OEM products and will stand behind their products – such as VAPEGEEK does!

The other side of the coin when it comes to unscrupulous retailers are the ones that make untrue claims about the performance of the product. In fact, one of the primary drivers of our decision to sell e cigarettes was all the misinformation about them on the internet.  My wife uses our products and we have some of our loyal customers test out new products so we KNOW how they do and should perform.  if they don’t perform as they should we will make it right with our customer.

There are way too many untrue claims out there such as ” a  5ml  bottle of e juice will last as long as a carton of cigarettes” or that “one filled cartridge is equivalent to a pack of cigarettes” they are simply NOT true.  We will give you an honest answer to these and all your questions at Vapegeek.  We want you to buy from us again and to recommend us to your friends and family.

ABC News reported a woman was caught smoking in a Non Smoking area in Denver International Airport earlier this week and apparently “had a breakdown” and stripped off all of her clothes.

I can’t help but think that If she had an E cigarette she could have Vaped and not been so stressed out!

Well I was just about to post this when I came across this article a man that stripped down naked when the TSA agent’s wand went off at Phoenix airport.

Guess he was tired of all the hassles of flying all the time.  I can certainly can sympathize with him as I used to fly over 100,000 miles a year doing consulting work.  The lines can be horrific.  Sensors going off for a quarter in your pocket, little old ladies in wheelchairs being searched, it is ridiculous.  When is our government going to learn to stop searching for weapons and search for terrorists!

We even search the pilots…it should seem pretty obvious that if a pilot wanted to kill everyone on board he wouldn’t need a weapon..he controls the entire plane..but our government still insists a search of the pilot is making us safe.

The madness continues!

Anyway..two naked travelers just days apart in the news…couldn’t resist sharing.

I have never been a smoker – my wife will testify to that…she used to laugh even when I used to try to light one for her. ( I don’t do that now because she doesn’t smoke anymore!)

I wanted to share why us NON SMOKERS love e cigarettes!   If you are a smoker you have probably have heard a list of complaints from your family members, friends and probably even from the general public about cigarettes and smoking. Smoking has come under attack from society over the past few years. Rather than focus on the negative side of what smoking does, I want to express all the positives E Cigarettes do – especially for us Non Smokers!

First thing I fell in love with when my wife started using her E Cigarette, was recovering all the lost time with her that smoking had taken. No longer did she have to leave our house to smoke..she vapes in our brand new house. Since there is no bad smelling smoke there is no need to go outside. IN FACT she usually uses Cinnageek (our Cinnamon flavored vapejuice) which has a great cinnamon aroma.   My lovely wife doesn’t have to run off anywhere to VAPE!

Being able to Vape in places where you can’t smoke means NO LONGER am I left sitting in the restaurant alone waiting on the check while she is outside having her after meal smoke. She can simply vape right there with me. This was always a big irritant with me but understood how strong that urge is for a smoker to have a cigarette after eating.

Another great thing about the Vapor vs Smoke issue is that when we are on long road trips, there is no longer the need to pull over to allow my wife to smoke.  She just vapes away while we drive. (She didn’t smoke in the car due to low resale value and to be considerate of the rest of us non smokers.)  This is a HUGE plus for us as my wife is a very nervous passenger in vehicles and for her to have to deal with her “phobia” as well as NOT having nicotine would make her miserable and conversely everyone else miserable (If Momma ain’t happen, ain’t NO ONE happy!).  We make much better time on trips and we  only have to coordinate stops for fuel and pee breaks.

As a Non Smoker..it’s hard to justify the amount of money spent on cigarettes in a household-so cost savings are another huge plus for us.  As everyone knows smoking is an expensive habit and one that is getting more expensive all the time.  E cigarettes can conservatively save a “pack a day” smoker 50% over the cost of traditional cigarettes even more for heavier smokers.

This is money we can put to better use.  Besides the costs of cigarettes, lighters and matches, there are plenty of “hidden” costs associated with smoking that can be reduced or eliminated  –such as lower insurance premiums (e cigarettes are not considered as “smoking” for many health care providers)  – higher resale value of vehicles over smokers vehicles, less money spent on burned clothes, less money on dental expenses.  I could list many more and I’m sure you can think of many I haven’t thought of yet.

Another big issue that Vaping has over Smoking is my wife no longer has SMOKER’S BREATH.  I love kissing my wife and while I loved kissing her even when she smoked, it is SO MUCH BETTER now that she has fresh breath.  I had gotten used to it after years of being around her smoking that I was really amazed at how even my sense of smell and taste had adapted to smoke.   Now her breath is completely free of that smoke, ashtray smell and taste..in fact it is like she is using breath fresheners!

Those are just a few of the reasons I love E Cigarettes.  If you are a smoker – please think about no only yourself but all those NON SMOKERS who care about you!

AND if you are a NON SMOKER- now would be a great time to recommend an E cigarette to the smokers in your life.   You would be doing them and YOURSELF a great service.
